The August 27, 2007 issue of trade journal Publishers Weekly features a special section on burgeoning interest in pet books: "It's Reigning Cats and Dogs." Wiley publisher Cindy Kitchel says Wiley imprint Howell House, in conjunction with the ASPCA, is publishing an anthology of happy endings: 'Hopeful Tails: Stories of Rescued Pets and Their Forever Families' collects photos and stories from adoptive pet parents…$1 for every book sold through June 30, 2008, will be donated by Borders to the ASPCA."
Also due next month: "Bandit: The Heart-Warming True Story of One Dog's Rescue from Death Row " (Skyhorse Publishing). Vicki Hearne recounts her experiences with a dog deemed so dangerous that the state of Connecticut condemned him to dea. According to publisher Rony Lyons, Hearne, who died in 2002, was "one of the great advocates for dogs."
